History of Online Casino Software Companies

The first real money online casino games started popping up in the late nineties. At that time the games were pretty crude which left many interested players feeling sceptical about their fairness.

Around this time, a handful of companies took a leap forward and launched products that were far more appealing and looked more trustworthy. These included Microgaming, Odds On (later to becoming the now defunct Vegas Technology), 888 and Cryptologic who literally started life in someone's garage somewhere in Toronto, Canada.

In those early days, these platforms were available only at one or two casinos but the real potential of licensing the software to third parties became evident soon thereafter. From that point onwards the industry exploded.

Over the next ten years we many more providers like Net Entertainment (Sweden), IGT (USA) and Real Time Gaming entered the marketplace.

As the larger British and European bookmakers started getting in on the act smaller, niche developers like Evolution Gaming, Ash Gaming and CTXM started to provide specific tailored solutions.

The dominant players today are still familiar names like Microgaming, Playtech, IGT, Realtime Gaming and NetEnt.

New providers still from time to time enter the market, such as land based giant WMS Gaming (USA) in last year and Viaden Gaming out of Lithuania.

Types of Software Providers

The dominant, larger providers mentioned above all offer an end to end software solution which includes games, backend administration affiliate management and even marketing tools.

Many of then have been forced to open their platforms and package their games individually as the larger operators started to demand the ability to hand pick games from various providers. Some “mega” online casinos will now operate games from as many as six different software developers.

Niche developer like Ash Gaming and Betsoft have developed some of the most amazing slots and the likes of GameAccount deliver bingo and fixed odds games.

So which is the Best Internet Casino Software?

This is a very personal thing and also depends very much on game preference.

Various platforms excel in different aspects of online casino gaming. Microgaming for instance in our opinion have the widest selection of games to choose from, NetEnt makes the best instant play slots with very entertaining bonus rounds and Cryptologic were the pioneers of branded slots with their Marvel Super Hero themes.

IGT’s progressive jackpots are right up there as some of the best in the business.

So to answer this question will always be a matter of taste, but the providers mentioned on this page all have something to offer.
